Merbok MDF Lanka (Pvt) Ltd
When it comes to expansion and venturing into the new territory, the Merbok Group of Companies has never been one to be hesitant. Less than six years after setting up its second MDF mill, the largest MDF manufacturer in Asia completed installing its third plant – its first outside Malaysia – in Sri Lanka, in what is reportedly the second largest Malaysian investment in the Ceylonese state. The factory's First Production Line has been up and running since the 3rd quarter of 2002 and has an installed capacity of 100,000 m3 / annum.

Key pull factors behind the US$ 45 million investment are Sri Lanka’s suitable supply of raw material (rubberwood) and its geographical proximity to the region’s burgeoning markets. Merbok is currently exporting to over 40 countries including Sri Lanka, and this plant will provide the group greater access to the Middle Eastern market and the Indian subcontinent market.

In late 2004, Merbok MDF Lanka commissioned it's 2nd production line, a Mende Press Line for the production of "thin MDF". Although the 2nd line is not yet running to capacity, as ever the Merbok Team will strive to have its actual output as close as possible to the supplier rated capacity.
